Acapulco Special Events

Many of the special events that take place in Acapulco are coordinated from the Acapulco Convention Center, located on the Costera in front of Costa Azul. A good plan is to visit the Convention Center when you arrive and check their calendar of special events and shows so you can pencil them in your vacation plans before you get completely distracted by the beaches and the night clubs. Ask any taxi to take you to the "Centro de Convenciones", take a Costera bus in the right direction (ask anyone), or call 484-6626.

Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra: Monthly concerts on the first or second Friday of the month (visit or call the Convention Center for dates). The shows start at 9:00 pm, but get to the Convention Center 30-45 minutes early for free tickets and a chat with the conductor of the orchestra.

Bullfights: You can attend bullfights in Acapulco on Sundays from November through March. Don't forget to bring your camera or video camera!

Acapulco Fair, Special Events

The Acapulco Fair: Held at the Convention Center during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Rides, games, shopping, and food. The fair is great fun for kids, and adults too!

Acafest: This annual Acapulco music festival draws huge crowds from all over Mexico. If it's May and the Costera looks like a giant parking lot, you can be fairly certain that Acafest (or "Acafes") is underway. The dates for Acafest 2004 are May 23 - May 29.

Mexican Open Tennis Tournament: Attention tennis fans! Acapulco hosts the annual Mexican Open Tennis Tournament at the Princess Hotel in early March.

Mexican Professional Wrestling: The famous masked wrestlers of Mexico came to the convention center in late November, 2004. I'm not sure if this wrestling event is annual.

Acapulco Air Show is Mexico's free entry international air event, where extreme aerobatics are going to take place performed by civil and military professional pilots, using the nature's perfect scenery of Acapulco's bay. In 2005, the air show will be held from Oct 31 to Nov 2.

Spring Break: Although it is not an official special event, spring break in Acapulco deserves to be listed because it is a major event and spectacle to behold.
