Directory of Good, Cheap Places to Eat in Acapulco

Restaurante Chela: NOTE: Currently closed - changing locations. Specializing in traditional Mexican food. The extensive menu is full of delicious entrées including many choices for the health-conscious diner. The "mixiote" (barbequed lamb, only on Sundays) is superb. Plus, it's run by very nice people.

100% Natural: Vegetarian and organic food restaurant chain. Ruth, a strict vegetarian, highly recommends 100% Natural: "They boast an excellent breakfast menu (continental style with croissants and pastries as well as a range of egg dishes and more unusual things). Their juices and smoothies are also delicious... Although there were a large number of vegetarian options, my dining companions were also very happy with their fish and chicken meals." A meal, shake, and tip will run you close to US$15. Thanks, Ruth !

Tarascos: Probably the best known restaurant chain in Acapulco, you should eat here at least once. They serve numerous varieties of tacos - the "Al Pastor Con Queso" (pork tacos w/ cheese) are my favorite. Wash them down with a glass of "Agua Orchata"
(sweet rice water). Open until late in the evening / morning. Look for the roasting pork.

Tacos' Tumbras: Primarily a late-night taco restaurant, you will see many partygoers here. It seems to be the place to "be seen" while stuffing your drink face full of food. Two locations on the Costera - one across from La Gran Plaza mall and the other by Cinemark.

Tortas Diana: Not really a restaurant - it's actually a cart parked right near the traffic circle in La Diana in "La Condesa". Yummy, slightly greasy sandwiches packed with all kinds of goodies for carnivores, especially good after a few beers. Fill your tummy for US$2.

Tacos & Beer: Brightly-lit taco joint, good for pre- or post-bar munchies. A bit expensive for simple tacos, but location is everything (La Condesa).

Torta Loca: Home of the crazy sandwich and wacky smoothies. Located in Costa Azul.

Smoothies: Give your body a healthy and refreshing treat with a fruit or vegetable smoothie. Many restaurants here serve smoothies; this is just a general listing.
